A natural wine event held in the Loire region of France in February this year.
At "La Dive Bouteille", I was able to meet Beaujolais producer Christophe Pacaret again!
Christophe Pacaret is the nephew of the late Marcel Lapierre, said to be the father of natural wine, and a cousin of the famous producer Philippe Pacaret, making him a true thoroughbred.
As a top natural winemaker, this year marks his 24th year of winemaking.
When I meet Christophe, he always cheer me up with his unwavering smile and positive energy.
He was so busy surrounded by a crowd of people at his booth.
I tasted the 2022 vintage wine, and the use of SO2 (antioxidants) has been significantly reduced, making it even more natural.
Christophe is the only one who makes so many different Crus from different fields in Beaujolais.
Especially delicious was the Fleury 2019 magnum bottle! I just wish I could drink it again. .
France has been suffering from severe heat waves in recent years.
In some areas, temperatures reach over 45 degrees, making survival itself difficult.
Even so,
“My Gamay is naturally grown, and old. It has deep roots, so it’s okay!”
says Christophe, who is full of confidence.
The 1999 vintage was the first time Christophe made wine.
Over 24 years of experience and achievements have captured the hearts of natural wine fans.
I think there are many people who think that nouveau is not delicious...
Nouveau, which is mass-produced and made in a factory-like manner, and natural Nouveau, which is carefully made by small-scale producers, are completely different.
Approximately 3% of Beaujolais' certified BIO fields. (Organic certification)
Even if you include producers who are not certified, only about 5% of the produce is legitimately grown naturally.
The grapes used for Christophe's Nouveau are from old vines that are 80 to 110 years old. (Too luxurious...)
During my time as an importer, I drank many natural Nouveau wines every year, and Christophe is definitely a producer that my husband and I can't ignore.
``This year's harvest is unprecedented! The quality of the grapes was as expected at the time of harvest!'' says Christophe, giving his approval, so we can't help but look forward to the release date.
Last year, amidst the turbulent world situation, Christophe gave up on shipping Nouveau to Japan.
We have created a set of wine that was aged for one year, which was supposed to be the Nouveau wine, and this year's 23rd year first pressing wine.
This year's release date is November 16th (Thursday), and those who make reservations by the day before will receive a special price.
Limited to 24 sets. Please enjoy it!
