Region: Lazio, Italy
Grape: 90% Passerina del Fulginate, 10% Malvasia del Lazio
Category: White
It's not flashy, but it's definitely delicious.
It's been a while since I've come across a truly Italian white wine with structure.
The aroma of pear, aloe, and dried herbs. The umami and minerals are solid, which is understandable given that it comes from volcanic soil. It is full of deep extract.
This is a wine that will definitely perform better when paired with food.
Unfiltered, no SO2 added.
This wine is expressed in a natural, monochromatic way, using only the raw ingredients. The name and brewing concept are "zero" and "restart." The wine is designed to be filled with the monochromatic blue of the French painter Yves Klein, who is a representative of monochromaticism, and to pay tribute to his innovative perspective, courage, and spirit of challenge.

Piglio is a small village with a population of about 4,600 that still retains its medieval appearance. Winemaking has been carried out since Roman times, and wine from this area was loved by successive Roman emperors. In Piglio, a grape festival is held on the first Sunday of October, when people drink the remaining wine in the cellar to make room for new wine, and celebrate the harvest by eating traditional dishes such as pork with polenta, meat sauce or fettuccine with porcini mushrooms, fennel bread, and finally several meat dishes and cheeses.
In this lovely town of Piglio, Maciocca began growing grapes in 1945 under the grandfather of Mario, the current owner, Giuseppe. After Giuseppe passed away in 1969, Mario's grandmother and father took over the vineyards, pouring their love into them. However, winemaking alone was not enough to provide a living, and they had to work other jobs, leading to a difficult life that effectively forced them to withdraw from winemaking. Mario was drawn to the great charm of the family vineyards that had been protected by his grandfathers. With determination and strong passion, he renovated the vineyards and winery, and revived the winery to express his love for his family and the history of the land.
Their vineyards are located in Ciociaria, on the border with Rome. The site is a small hill 380 meters above sea level, blessed with plenty of sunlight, and the soil is composed of volcanic and clayey soil, including red soil. His first rule for cultivation is to maintain the balance of mutualism between plants and the soil, and work in the fields is done without pesticides.
He has a consistent philosophy of brewing wine as naturally as possible and expressing the uniqueness of this region, and he says that you must always cultivate the fields with respect. Mario is a very aggressive head of a winery, participating in "VineNature" just like Marco of Carlo Tanganelli, but he is usually a gentle, soft-spoken, charming young man with black-rimmed glasses and a smiling face.
