2019/ARBOIS SAVAGNIN
Region:France, Jura
Grape:Savagnin
Category:White
This is practically a "petit vin jaune"...
Incredible flavors of smoked almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts, and spices, resulting from careful oxidative aging, come in like a storm.
The 150-million-year-old marl soil beautifully expresses the unique finesse that only the Jura region can produce.
Oxidatively aged for 48 months in 225-liter barriques.

【Producer Information】
The winery is named after the surnames of the father (Fumei) and mother (Chatelain).
While their grandparents farmed grains and other crops and raised dairy cows for Comté cheese, their parents, Raphaël and Adeline, began cultivating grapes in the mid-80s. Initially, they made a living by selling grapes. (Their buyer was Henri Maire, the largest domaine in Jura!)
In 1991, a late frost damaged 95% of Jura, bringing their flourishing business to a halt. However, refusing to give up, they decided to make their own wine from the few remaining grapes, which marked the beginning of the domaine. They borrowed winemaking equipment from friends and relatives (including Stéphane!) and somehow managed to establish the domaine.
After many struggles since their first vintage in '91, they finally acquired their longed-for winery in 1999 in Montigny-lès-Arsures, a neighboring village of Arbois. A few years ago, they also purchased vineyards from Stéphane, and now they cultivate 17 hectares across over 20 fragmented plots, including Arbois!
Currently, the domaine is led by their son, Marin. Having grown up helping his parents in the vineyards since childhood, he naturally gravitated towards winemaking.
After earning a degree from a winemaking school in Burgundy, Marin began assisting his parents at the age of 19.
Feeling the need to travel and learn what kind of wine he truly wanted to make, he gained extensive experience as a winemaker in Australia, South Africa, and other countries.
About the vineyards
80% of the total 17ha of vineyards, located at an altitude of 300-400m, are marl, and 20% are limestone.
Like Stéphane's vineyards, they are composed of Lias-era Early Jurassic and even older Triassic formations.
Since 2017, all of the domaine's vineyards have been converted to organic farming.
While they initially had no interest in certification, with Marin's involvement, they decided to pursue it, and organic certification is currently pending and expected soon.
His winemaking mentors are his father and Stéphane Tissot!
Marin's winemaking motto is to create "living wines that stir the soul."
He also shared his dream of eventually growing fruits and grains, raising cattle, and becoming more of a farm than just a domaine.
Marin, the young winemaker, is dedicated to creating honest wines that reflect the taste of the land, born from grapes cultivated with respect for the natural environment!
