if des Jonqueyres 2020
Region: Bordeaux, France (AOC Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux)
Grapes: Merlot, Cabernet Franc
Color: Red
Even those unfamiliar with Bordeaux wines will love it!
While I don't often choose Bordeaux wines, Jonqueyres has been a long-time favorite winery of mine.
Without losing the classic Bordeaux style with its structure, this wine has a solid 14.5% alcohol content and richness. Yet, it possesses a comfortable familiarity that gently integrates with the body, a quality only achieved through careful and natural winemaking.
The 2020 vintage, having undergone good aging, is now perfectly ready to drink.
Even as a second wine, this price offers exceptional taste.

[Producer Information]
The château has been managed by owner Pascal Monthau since 1978 under the name Jonqueyres in the Blaye region of Bordeaux.
They own about 10 hectares of vineyards, most of which are planted with Merlot.
These vines were planted between the 1930s and 1990s.
For 40 years, no chemical herbicides or pesticides have been used, grass cover is natural, and the soil is mechanically worked. Jonqueyres' vineyards are a treasure trove of plant and animal diversity.
All harvesting is done by hand, and fermentation uses the natural yeasts from their own grapes.
They are committed to natural winemaking methods.
Using ancient vines that are practically a world heritage, they began aging in new oak barrels in 1982. This wine garnered attention and quickly became a popular wine that was hard to obtain. Due to extremely limited production, it is so popular that it is bought up by ardent fans even while it is still aging in barrels.
This estate earned the highest 5 Glasses from "Le Classement" and the following year received the highest star rating.
Olivier Poussier, who became the world's No. 1 sommelier, praised it as "the best Bordeaux I would choose myself," and James Suckling awarded Jonqueyres 15 a score of 92 points (about one-third the price of other wines with the same rating).
