if des Jonqueyres 2022

Region: France, Bordeaux (AOC Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux)

Grapes: Merlot, Cabernet Franc

Color: Red

Even those new to Bordeaux wines will love it!

This wine has a large number of repeat customers and was sold out for a while, but a new vintage has arrived! I don't usually choose Bordeaux wines, but Jonqueyres has been a favorite winery of mine for many years. It maintains the classic Bordeaux style with good structure and a solid 14.5% alcohol content, offering richness and depth. Yet, there's a pleasant, easy-drinking quality that integrates smoothly with the body, a testament to careful, natural winemaking. Even as a second wine, this price offers exceptional value.

【Producer Information】

Owner Pascal Montaut has been making wine at his château in Blaye, Bordeaux, under the name Jonqueyres since 1978.

He owns approximately 10 hectares of vineyards, most of which are planted with Merlot.
The vines were planted between the 1930s and 1990s.

For 40 years, no chemical herbicides or pesticides have been used, making Jonqueyres' vineyards a treasure trove of plant and animal diversity.
All harvesting is done by hand, and fermentation uses the natural yeasts from their own grapes. They are committed to natural winemaking methods.

Using ancient vines that are of world heritage quality, they began aging in new oak barrels in 1982. This brought their wine into the spotlight, quickly becoming a highly sought-after and difficult-to-acquire wine. Due to extremely limited production, its popularity is such that it is often bought up by avid fans even while still aging in barrels.

In this region, it received the highest rating of 5 glasses in "Le Classement," and the following year, it also earned the highest star. Olivier Poussier, who became the world's No. 1 sommelier, praised it as "the best Bordeaux I would choose," and James Suckling awarded 92 points to Jonqueyres '15 (about one-third the price of other wines with the same rating).
