[Producer information]
Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea.
One of Italy's most popular wine producing regions.
Vittoria, at the southern tip of Sicily, is an area that is gaining attention as a producer of natural wines.
The brewery was established in 2002 and bottling began in 2005.
Julfo is the name of a road and is derived from the name of the place.
The climate is typically Mediterranean, with warm, rainy winters and hot, dry summers.
The organic farming is obvious at a glance, and the owner, Achille, says, "Even with BIO, it's extremely important to keep a close eye on the field preparation from start to finish!"
The soil is limestone-based, including porous carbonate limestone, which gives the wine a delicate flavour.
Ancient shell fossils have been unearthed and ancient minerals are alive here.
You can see that all kinds of undergrowth is growing and that legumes are producing sufficient nitrogen.
There are various types, including uncultivated areas and fields where the crops have been mixed into the soil.
The total area of the site is 90 hectares, including ponds and woods for regenerative agriculture, olives and other crops, and 34 hectares for grapes, where 20 different varieties are cultivated.
All the grapes are grown in-house, so even though there is a large area, the quantity is small.
The owner, Achille's father, is still actively involved in cultivating the land. Achille is mainly involved in winemaking.
In addition, there is Francesca, an outstanding secretary. The winery is run by a winemaker, a farmer, and four or five other young people.
Achille is a doctor, intelligent and passionate.
Our motto is "Good ingredients mean good wine. Good experiences mean good work."
Currently, his sisters Alessandra and Achille continue the traditions of the Giulfo winery, producing extremely elegant and flavorful wines from the beautiful soil of Sicily.
