Matis 2023

Region: Tuscany, Italy

Grape : 100% Vermentino

Category: White

The new vintage has a completely new image.

I've been drinking this wine from this producer for many years, and personally, it's my favorite I've ever had!
Until now, Vermentino has been a dark, full-bodied type, but this one has been reborn as a clear, mineral-rich white wine with beautiful acidity. It is by no means a light, smooth type, but it still retains the same core, satisfying taste and presence.

Matisse was the childhood nickname of the eldest son, Mattia, and the label features his name, a hill and a star in harmony.

Wines - La Cerreta

[Producer information]

"I want to use wine as a bridge to connect the world," says Daniele Mazzanti, who runs La Cereta, located deep in the mountains of Maremma, Tuscany. For the past 40 years, La Cereta has been a self-sufficient family-run farm, producing high-quality, traditional agricultural and livestock products.

They arrived at biodynamic farming in order to restore the natural balance of nature and establish sustainable agriculture in coexistence with nature. In other words, Daniele says that biodynamic farming is not just for winemaking, but also for vegetables, fruits, cows, horses, pigs, forests, etc., and the entire farm is Ecocert certified.

Cork trees grow naturally on the farm, and Daniele says the only things he can't harvest himself are salt and coffee beans. The farm has long been a place where grapes have been grown, thanks to its ideal soil. However, he replanted grapes in the Solatio (meaning sunny spot), which has long been the best part of the estate, and began producing wine in its current form in 1999.

In order to obtain Demeter certification from 2020 , farms will be required to raise animals according to the cultivated area. In reality, there are very few farms that can keep animals, so Demeter's It is expected that more producers will reject the certification. We raise many species native to Scandinavia, so there is no problem in that regard.

Follow the biodynamic concept It is essential to raise animals on the farm, and it is impossible to achieve biodynamic wine with a single grape cultivation. It is fitting that Lacelleta is an isolated farm in the deep forest. The farm is blessed with a rich ecosystem, and wolves even appear nearby. It is said that when nature returns, the wolves will also return, but here they do not. It is one of the wild animals that is always there , and is proof that the ecosystem is being protected.
