Stradora 2023

Region: Italy, Emilia-Romagna

Grape: Malvasia di Candia

Color: White, Sweet    *500ml

An exquisite sweet wine that fully expresses the gorgeous characteristics of the grape variety

Aromas of ripe dried fruits and sweet honey.
You can clearly taste the rich, ripe fruit, natural sweetness, and honey-like umami.
It's not just sweet; it has an acidity that supports the flavor, making it an addictive dessert wine.

After harvesting the highly aromatic Malvasia di Candia grapes, they are air-dried in small boxes for about 3 months, then undergo short-term maceration for fermentation. After aging, they are bottled unfiltered. The drying of the grapes results in an even more aromatic and complex dessert wine with rich umami.

【Producer Information】

Quarticello was established in 2001 when the current owner, Roberto, purchased a vineyard in Montecchio Emilia, Emilia-Romagna, at the age of 24.

His vineyards are located in Val d'Enza at the foot of the Apennine Mountains, adjacent to the river of the same name. Although the area is a very small vineyard of only 5 hectares, he has studied indigenous viticulture and enology with respect for the land, earning a degree. Since the winery began, he has managed all aspects of both cultivation and winemaking.

When he was young, his grandfather also made wine, and Roberto watched his grandfather's work and wine from a young age. Later, when he discovered natural wines, he was struck by the commonalities between those wines and the wines his grandfather made.

That experience further strengthened his passion for winemaking.

His vineyards have a soil composition of sand and clay, and the grapevines are cultivated using the Guyot system. The shallow areas nearby contain a lot of gravel, which gives the grapes a firm acidity, a major characteristic of their wines. They have obtained organic certification and incorporate biodynamics into their farming methods. Only copper and sulfur are used to protect the grapes from plant diseases, and natural materials are used for fertilizer.

Through honest farming practices that do not burden the natural environment, unique microorganisms proliferate in the vineyards. Strong grapes with wild yeasts characteristic of the land grow, and in winemaking, healthy wines are produced without the addition of yeast or excessive sulfur dioxide.

Malvasia di Candia from Emilia stands apart from other varieties bearing the Malvasia name. It is highly aromatic, and the flavors and tannins contained in its skin are quite powerful for a white grape. If subjected to long-term maceration, a wine with astringency comparable to a red wine can be produced.

Quarticello is characterized by producing soft, gentle, and delicate wines within this style. Furthermore, a characteristic of Montecchio Emilia is that Malvasia with a moderate sweetness and not high in alcohol tends to grow well there.

During winemaking, the use of SO2 is kept to a minimum, limited to after the first grape press, so as not to alter the natural characteristics of the grapes. The aim is to preserve the unique character of the indigenous varieties of this region.

Roberto is a father of two, spending all his time with his children in the vineyard and dedicating his days to winemaking.
