2021/ARBOIS TROUSSEAU LE BASTARD

Region: France Jura

Grape: Trousseau

Category:Red

Cherishing the originality of the field,
We conducted our own selection process.
The variety is called ``Trousseau a la Dame''.
Mushrooms, brown sugar, mint, tanned leather,
Earthy nuances with spices such as pepper.
It has such a rich and complex taste,
Is there any other trousseau that will keep you entertained for a long time?

The wine name means "Let's do this!" in English.
A play on words from the synonym for Trousseau, ``Bastarde.''
“If I could only drink one wine for the rest of my life,
Definitely Trousseau! ” expresses his love for Trousseau!

[Producer information]

The brewery was named after Fumey (father's last name) and Chatelain (mother's last name).
His grandparents farmed grain and raised dairy cows for Comté cheese, but in the mid- 1980s , his parents Raphael and Adeline started growing grapes. At first, he made a living by selling grapes. (Sold to Henri Mer, the largest domaine in Jura!)

The late frost that occurred in 1991 damaged 95% of Jura, and what had been a successful business came to a halt. However, they did not give up and decided to make their own wine using the few remaining grapes, and the domaine was started. They borrowed wine-making equipment from friends and relatives (including Stéphane!) and managed to establish a domaine.

From the first vintage in 1991, they continued to struggle, and in 1999 they opened their long-awaited winery in Montigny-les-Arseurs, a village next to Arbois. A few years ago, we also purchased a field from Stefan, and now we are making wine in more than 20 plots, 17ha of subdivided fields including Arbois!

Currently, the person leading the domaine is his son Maran. Having grown up helping his parents in their fields since childhood, he naturally turned to winemaking.
Marant started helping his parents at the age of 19 after earning a degree from a brewing school in Burgundy.
I felt that I needed to travel and learn more about what kind of wine I wanted to make, so I gained a lot of experience as a winemaker in Australia, South Africa, and other countries.

About the field

At an altitude of 300-400m , 80% of the 17ha field is marl and 20% limestone.
Like Stefan's field, it is made up of the Rias period, which is the early Jurassic period, and the Triassic period, which is even older than that.
Since 2017 , all fields of the domaine have been converted to organic cultivation.
I originally had no interest in certification, but with Maran's entry into the market, I decided to take advantage of the opportunity...I am currently applying for organic cultivation certification and will receive the organic cultivation certification soon.

My wine-making masters are my father and Stephen Tissot!

Marant's winemaking motto is to create ``living wine that moves the soul.''
In the future, he told us his dreams of growing fruits and grains, raising cows, and wanting to be more of a farm than a domaine.
Maran, a young winemaker, strives every day to create honest wine with the taste of the land that can only be created by growing grapes that protect the natural environment!
