Tête de Fruit Rouge 2022
Region: Savoy, France
Grape: Pinot Noir
Category: Red wine
A charming Pinot that tastes like freshly picked raspberries!
The aroma of blackcurrant, raspberry, strawberry and mushroom, the fresh fruitiness, and the lively acidity are all exquisitely good. The fresh taste now is great, but it will be even more delicious after a few years of aging...
The name of the cuvée is an expression that describes someone interesting or crazy, and the label depicts the house, the village surrounding the cellar, and the stream flowing behind it.
The vines are 35 to 50 years old. Fermented in fiberglass and stainless steel tanks and aged for 14 months. Unfiltered and unfined.
[Producer information]
Lisanne van Son, originally from the Netherlands, has worked as a sommelier in the Netherlands, Belgium, the UK and Montlouis. Together with Benjamin Serre, originally from Tours and a chef at the Alain Ducasse Group restaurants, Lisanne created her first winery, Soncer Vin.
Lisanne first came to the Loire in 2013 to work for Noella Morentin in Touraine, and continued to help out several times a week even after she started making her own wine.
Later, Lisanne went to winemaking school in Amboise to learn winemaking systematically, where she met Benjamin. The two hit it off. They decided to make wine together in the future, so after graduation, she trained with a winery in Montlouis-sur-Loire, while Benjamin began his training with several wineries in Vouvray.
While training, the two began preparing for the project in 2016, informally brewing several cuvées. During this period, she traveled back and forth between the Netherlands, Belgium, and the Loire, working in other producers' fields and wineries during the day and working in a wine bar in Montlouis at night, overcoming her busy training period, and finally settled in the Loire in 2017.
Unfortunately, after the 2019 harvest, Benjamin and I went our separate ways. When we visited in 2020, Lisanne was the only one who greeted us. However, she didn't show any signs of loneliness, and with a lively smile, brisk movements, careful preparation, and perfect arrangements, she let us taste from the tanks and bottles. At the same time, she told us about the wines and herself. Her kindness and consideration, as she prepared homemade desserts for us when we were tired, not only touched our bodies but also our hearts.
Lisanne has found a new partner and together with him, she was fortunate to be able to purchase a cellar in Savoie in 2021. The vineyard is 4 hectares and is planted with Chardonnay, Gamay, Poulsard and Pinot Noir. The previous owner only sprayed herbicides once a year, but the vineyard was not pesticide-free, so she has been converting the vineyard to pesticide-free since the purchase.
The name of the domain is Domaine de Sonnette.
The first VTG year, 2021, was a year in which late frost and mildew caused severe damage across France.
Unfortunately, the vineyards were in poor condition when they purchased them, so they were only able to produce 400L of wine in total. For the Domaine's first VTG, they used all the grapes to make one type of Pétillant. They only produced about 1,700 bottles. And as for the future of the Negoce wines made from grapes purchased in Alsace and the Loire, which they have continued to produce, they will of course continue to do so.
Starting with the 2021 VTG, the brewing site has been moved to Savoie.
She is confident that she will be able to create a wine that is unique to her, taking advantage of the characteristics of the four beloved grape varieties and the terroir of Savoie. Lisanne and her new partner are a small but brilliant new producer in the popular Savoie region.
