ROSSO 2021

Region: Tuscany, Italy

Grape: Sangiovese, Ciliegiolo, Punitello

Category:Red

When the bottle is about half full, you'll notice that it's not flashy, but truly delicious.

A new vintage that was casually introduced to me by my boss from my previous job (importer).
It's the kind of wine that can't be described with words like fruity, but will leave you muttering, "This is delicious..." and the bottle will be empty in no time.
It has a great affinity with cooking, and goes well with not only Italian and meat dishes, but also Japanese dishes that use soy sauce, such as beef tendon stew.

The 21st year is a wine that is even softer, but still has the goodness of Italian wine (according to my husband), like oxidized silver.

[Producer information]

Ivan, who founded Ballenaia, is a former graphic designer.
Tired of city life, he moved to Siena, Tuscany in search of a new way of life.
While working there as a designer, I also worked on a natural grape farm nearby.
When he was 21 years old, he read Masanobu Fukuoka's ``One Straw Revolution'' and was so shocked that he decided to start natural farming in earnest, thinking, ``This is no time to sit and work.''

Around the same time, he learned of Steiner's concept of biodynamics and decided that biodynamics/natural grape cultivation and winemaking was the way to go.
He met his wife, Claudia, while traveling abroad, and after talking about his ideas, they hit it off. They have decided that their future goal is to ``create a natural farming farm together.''

After returning home, Ivan attended a biodynamic course in Piedmont (established by the founders of the Renaissance Group), and Claudia went to university in Tuscany to study herbalism/pharmacy.
After completing the course in 2008, he began practicing natural grape cultivation and winemaking at a winery in Tuscany, and the following year, in 2009, he learned of Castellina and began working there.
Until 2021, he has been active as owner Fabio's right-hand man for 12 years.
We purchased Barenaia Farm in 2016, and while working in Castellina, we steadily opened up the abandoned farm and celebrated our first vintage in 2020!
