HALOZE BLANC 2020

Region: Slovenia Gorca

Grape: Furmint, Sauvignon Blanc, Laski Riesling

Category:White

The new vintage is finally brewed with zero sulfites!
Slovenian wine is slowly becoming more popular.
My husband and I both love mineral wine, and this full-bodied taste is irresistible...
Although the atmosphere is quiet, there are hints of lychee and lemon peel, and a pleasant aftertaste that never interferes with the meal.
This is an attractive bottle that shows the characteristics you want in a white wine one after another.

[Producer information]
The Gross family is a historic family that has been making wine in Styria since 1750.

Ten years ago, my older brother Johannes moved to Austria.
His younger brother Michael is in charge of each winery in Slovenia.

His older brother Johannes graduated from Klosterneuburg, the best brewing school in Austria.
When he speaks, he touches the soil and the grapes, and you can tell that he cares about the nature of the farm. Biodiversity, sustainability, landscape, and tradition come up a lot in the conversation, and I'm convinced that they're not making natural wine just to be fashionable. Half of our wine sales come from community-based brewers who come to the winery to buy.

In Johannes's grandfather's generation,
They used to use chemical fertilizers when necessary, but since his generation they have returned to using homegrown fertilizers.
(It took two years to mature, and everything except the cow dung came from the farm).

Even that fertilizer is only used in a very small amount for two years after planting.
Other than that, check the color of the leaves and use spots as needed.
The company also aims to grow high-quality grapes by increasing biodiversity without relying on herbicides, pesticides, or chemical fertilizers.
Almost all winemaking takes place in the fields. Most of the field work is done by hand.
This is because the fields are terraced and have steep slopes, making it difficult to mechanize.
Of the 20 employees, 17 work in the fields.

I'm posting photos from my visit this year on Instagram, so please take a look!
