Region: Austria, Burgenland
Grape : Welschriesling, Traminer, Pinot Gris
Category: White (orange)
A new orange with a perfect balance!
There are many different types of orange wine, but this one is right in the middle.
The extraction isn't too strong, but it's not lacking either. A very good bottle for any meal or situation.
This seasoning is perfect for dried apricots, the bitterness of orange peel, and just the right amount of acidity.
Fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks. Unfiltered, unfined.
[Producer information]
The village of Bamhagen is located on the southeast coast of the World Heritage Site Lake Neusiedlase, right next to the Hungarian border.
It has a very long history and has been farming for hundreds of years.
Three brothers, Werner, Hannes, and Lukas Michitz, inherited the farm complex from their parents, with Werner and his wife Angela in charge of grape cultivation and winemaking.
The farm, which was 40 hectares 30 years ago, has now expanded to 2,500 hectares, more than 90% of which is owned in Hungary.
The center of grape cultivation is, of course, the southeastern shore of Lake Neusiedlase, where the soil is clayey and sandy.
In 2001, he founded Weingut Meinklang and practiced biodynamic farming by incorporating the knowledge and experience of his wife Angela, who has experience in biodynamic farming.
Preparation, which is one of the major features of biodynamic farming, is also homemade. For example, they use the horns of Angus cows raised on their own farm and the dung from the grass that the cows eat on their farm as No. 500 preparation.
This Angus beef is the motif on their wine label. Not only are cows an important partner in grape and wine production, but they also play an extremely important role in continuing the biodiversity and natural circulation agriculture that is engraved in the Mihilitz family's DNA. Because I'm in charge.
It goes without saying that they are Demeter certified and do not use any chemical substances such as pesticides, chemical fertilizers, or herbicides in their fields.
The fields are surrounded by several ponds and nearly 300 types of natural plants, including fava beans, sweet clover, red clover, and medicinal herbs, which provide habitat for insects and revitalize organic matter in the soil.
The roots of the plants grow deep underground, keeping the soil plump and soft, and fruit trees such as quinces, almonds, and plums are also planted in the fields, making it a feeding ground for over 62 species of wild birds.
Furthermore, the area around these trees is a place of activity and home for rats, hedgehogs, martens, dormouses, and more.
By allowing their cattle, sheep, and horses to feed in the fields, there is no need to use herbicides, and their manure becomes a useful fertilizer for the fields, filling the soil with more vitality. The fields where the diversity of natural life and energy and recycling-oriented agriculture have been realized are nothing short of spectacular, and are beautiful and powerful, and even humans can feel it with their own skin.
They believe that creating a natural and peaceful habitat for grapes, plants such as wild flowers and fruit trees, insects and small wild animals in the vineyard, and allowing them to coexist will lead to grape cultivation that is full of the energy of the earth. !
