Weissburgunder 2023

Region : Austria Neusiedlersee

Grape: Weissburgunder

Category : White

Another wonderful producer from Austria joins us!

I happened to taste her wines at an event in France two years ago.
The above cuvée is also excellent, but I am impressed with the value of this wine...

Green-yellow in color, with the aroma of apples, sweetness, and yuzu. It has a refreshing taste that goes down smoothly and you never get tired of drinking it. I like to drink it chilled on a hot day.
The Weissburgunder grapes are grown in the gravel soil inherited from the owner's father in the village of Gols on the north shore of Lake Neusiedl. They are whole-cluster pressed and then fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks and wooden barrels.

[Producer information]

Weingut Beck is a family-run winery in the village of Gols. It is located in the north of Burgenland, on the north shore of Lake Neusiedl. Traditionally, this area is dotted with small farms, all of which make wine. Originally, the Beck family worked in a variety of farming activities, but when Matthias Beck took over from his father in 1975, he focused solely on winemaking. Starting with 5 hectares, the vineyards have now expanded to 15 hectares.

In 2001, his daughter Judith returned to Japan after completing her wine training in France, Italy and Chile, and he entrusted her with the role of winemaker. In 2007, she took over all of the winemaking duties from her father and converted the vineyards to biodynamic farming.
Since the switch to biodynamic farming, Judith has been spending significantly more time in the vineyards and has developed a deeper connection with them. She prefers the traditional grape varieties Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch, St. Laurent, Weissburgunder and Welschriesling.

On the northern shore of Lake Neusiedlersee lies one of Neusiedlersee's most famous wine-producing regions, the Parndorfer Plateau, which enjoys sunshine all day long. Her most beautiful vineyards are found on the steep slopes and on the top of the Wagram hill.
The soils of the Parndorfer Plateau are extremely diverse, and one single vineyard is made up of humus, gravel, loam, limestone, and minerals, making it an ideal complex soil that expresses the diversity of the soil well in the wine. She wants her wines to be both natural and have their own unique character, so she has been committed to the ideas of Rudolf Steiner since 2007 and has converted her vineyards to biodynamic farming.

From then on, she will comprehensively care for the fields by practicing biodynamic theory to keep the vines healthy and natural. It is like treating the diseased part of a human being, but also caring for and improving the mental health of the patient. Specifically, it means greening and rejuvenating the fields, protecting biodiversity, and making the soil fertile.
And of course, all of this work is done by hand, taking into account the lunar cycles and the laws of nature.
As a result, Juditvec's wines are made without any added ingredients and are allowed to ferment spontaneously using only natural yeasts, without any risk whatsoever.

"International style is produced all over the world. My wines are me, they are born and live here in Neusiedlsee. That is the most beautiful fact for me, just like my daily life in the vineyards."
